EU Directive EPBD: What does this mean for Switzerland?
The European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) is the central legal framework of the European Union (EU) for improving the energy efficiency, climate neutrality, and sustainability of buildings. It applies to both new and existing buildings and contains specific requirements that must be transposed into national law by all member states.
The EPBD sets targets for the energy efficiency and decarbonization of buildings and promotes the development of digital tools and data systems to manage this transformation. The Digital Building Logbook (DBL) and the Digital Building Passport (DBP) are particularly important in this context.
The EPBD thus acts as an indirect driver for greater transparency, digitalization, and sustainability in the Swiss real estate market.
